VoiceThread Assigments -- Troubleshooting
If you are trying to make a comment on someone else's VoiceThread:
- You cannot upload any PDF or PowerPoint or image files at all. Just audio or video files.
- One of the possible solutions below can provide a work-around solution to this situation.
- If you are creating a new VoiceThread presentation, and not commenting on a VoiceThread presentation you watched or reviewed, you should normally be able to upload most common file types.
If you are having problems uploading files, try these possible solutions:
- Be sure to email your instructor about your technical issues.
- If you can include a copy of your presentation in the email, please do so.
- If you contacted ihelp@drexel.edu (only if taking Drexel CCI courses), let your instructor know you did so.
- But continue to try to upload your presentation or slides to VoiceThread all the same.
- Logout, clear your cache, close your web browser completely, re-open it, and try again.
- How to clear your cache: Clear Browser Cache and History -- INCLUDE
- Try uploading the PowerPoint with a different web browser:
- Chrome, Firefox, New Edge, Safari (Mac). If you are already tried one, try another. Safari is built-in to Mac. The other 3 are available for free download and are easy to install.
- Disable any ad-blocking or privacy-enhancing plug-ins or add-ons you have installed in the web browser.
- In Firefox, click shield icon on left side of web address bar at top, and disable enhanced privacy protection.
- Convert the PowerPoint to a bunch of individual images. Upload each image separately and in order to your new VoiceThread presentation. Each image will become a new “slide” in the VoiceThread presentation.
- Use one of the screen recorder options below, and record your computer display while you click through your presentation. Wait 10 seconds on each slide. Then move to the next one. Then upload the video.
- Windows screen recorder -- FlashBack Express: FlashBack Express - Free Screen Recorder
- Do not upload .fbr files if you use Flashback Express. Convert the .fbr file to a video file & instructions are at the FlashBack Express link above for this.
- Mac screen recorder -- cmd+shift+5: mac OS Cmd-Shift-5 screen recorder
- If you do not have fast internet, try downsizing your video using Handbrake.
- Use OneDrive to share your PowerPoint in a text comment.
- Open OneDrive in a a web browser at https://portal.office.com
- Login with Drexel userid email and password.
- Click OneDrive “cloud” icon (look in left nav).
- Click “Upload” to upload your PowerPoint file.
- See instructions below to make a Share link to this PowerPoint folder in OneDrive (sometimes called Sharepoint).
- Make a text comment in VoiceThread (and short audio recording first, but only if necessary in VoiceThread).
- Copy/paste the link into the Text Comment.
- Add another text comment explaining why you had to do this.
- Submit that as your VT.
- Email your instructor as well if you had to do this. Include the link their too.
