Grade Center -- Smart Views Grading Bug Workaround
A bug was discovered at CCI with using "Smart Views" in Bb Learn and grading. If you grade a particular student's attempt for an assignment/exam in "Grade Center" while using a "Smart View," and then click "Save and Next," there's a good chance you won't be taken to the next student who needs grading from that "Smart View" but to another student outside of the "Smart View." Also, if you click "Grade Attempts" from the column header of an assignment/test grade column in a "Smart View" in "Grade Center" in Bb Learn, you have a good chance of seeing students outside of that "Smart View." For Bb discussion boards, journals, blogs, and wikis, if you grade a student, click "Submit," then click the arrow next to the student's name, you have a good chance of seeing students outside of that "Smart View." Bb is aware of this issue, but there's not a timetable yet for a fix. In the meantime, the following work-around solution is suggested for grading assignments/exams or discussion boards, journals, blogs, and wikis using a "Smart View" in "Grade Center" in Bb Learn.
For a Bb Learn Assignment or Exam
- Click to expand "Grade Center" in the left-hand course menu in the Bb Learn course shell.
- Click the name of the "Smart View" you want to use.
(a) If your "Smart View" is not listed, then click "Full Grade Center," then "Filter," then the "Current View" drop-down menu, and select your "Smart View." - Hover with your mouse over an exclamation point in the assignment/test column you want to grade, and click the circled down arrow that appears in the cell next to the exclamation point.
- Click "Attempt..."
- Grade the assignment/test for the student as you would normally, but don't click "Save and Next" when you are finished grading the assignment. *Instead, click "Save and Exit."*
- You should return to the "Smart View" of "Grade Center" you were in before. (If it doesn't, don't proceed, and let us know.) Repeat steps 3-6 until you have graded all the assignment/test columns you wish in your "Smart View."
For a Bb Learn Discussion Board, Journal, Blog, or Wiki
- Click to expand "Grade Center" in the left-hand course menu in the Bb Learn course shell.
- Click the name of the "Smart View" you want to use.
(a) If your "Smart View" is not listed, then click "Full Grade Center," then "Filter," then the "Current View" drop-down menu, and select your "Smart View." - Hover with your mouse over an exclamation point in the discussion board, journal, blog, or wiki you want to grade, and click the circled down arrow that appears in the cell next to the exclamation point.
- Click "Grade User Activity"
- Grade the discussion board, journal, blog, or wiki for the student as you would normally, but after clicking "Submit" to save the grade and comments, *click either "OK" or "Return to Grade Center" in the lower right-hand corner.*
- You should return to the "Smart View" of "Grade Center" you were in before. (If it doesn't, don't proceed, and let us know.) Repeat steps 3-6 until you have graded all the discussion board, journal, blog, or wiki columns you wish in your "Smart View."
