Bb Learn Tests -- Very Important Notes
Need help creating, editing, or grading tests?
- See Bb Learn Tests & the relative links there.
BUT ALWAYS DO *ALL* OF THE FOLLOWING...
...if you are using Bb Learn Tests (Exams or Quizzes).
Note: Any ad blocking, script-blocking, and privacy-enhancing plug-ins, add-ons, or extensions should be disabled for Bb Learn. In Firefox, we recommend disabling the “enhanced protection” by clicking the shield icon in the web address bar at the top (left side of that bar).
- In a Multiple Answer question in Bb Learn, if the partial credit option is enabled, and if a student checks off *all* the answers, or all right and some wrong answers, the student will get full score for that question, even if they selected wrong answers. For work-around solutions and more details on this issue, see Bb Learn Test -- Very Important Note on Multiple Answer Q's with Partial Credit
NEVER Check "Force Completion."
If you want to WASTE YOUR TIME with technical issues, re-grading, students re-taking tests, grading multiple partial tests, and/or grade discrepancy issues, then by all means, check or enable "Force Completion." Any loss of power or net access, and any fluke with a cookie or session info, and any accidental navigation away from the test will make the test submit itself. DU IT also discourages "Force Completion." So do NOT check "Force Completion. Instead, use Timer, Auto-Submit, Due Date, Do Not Allow Tests After the Due Date, and Availability settings. For how to change, see Bb Learn Tests -- Editing .
Allowing Multiple Attempts or Submissions? Set the test to show the feedback after the "Due Date" (or after an even later date).
Students could take the test right away after looking at automated feedback or score, and improve their scores without knowing the materials. For how to change, see Bb Learn Tests -- Editing .
NEVER Edit Test Questions or Answers After a Student Starts a Test.
Before students start the exam is fine. Editing simple point values on questions before or after tests submitted is fine. Editing Question text or Answer text or what is correct can corrupt test results.
Set the Due Date & Do Not Allow Starting Tests After the Due Date.
Manual checking and looking at the "Test Information" area of Test "Attempt" for all submitted Tests should be done, or you could miss if a Test was submitted late. For how to change, see Bb Learn Tests -- Editing .
Timed Test? Always Enable Auto-Submit.
Manual checking and looking at the "Test Information" area of Test "Attempt" for all submitted Tests should be done, or you could miss if a Test was submitted late. For how to change, see Bb Learn Tests -- Editing .
Timed Test? Tell Students NOT to Hide the Timer.
Message-warning students when half the time, 5 minutes, 1 minute, or 30 seconds left will not appear if Timer is hidden. Include a note in the Test instructions.
- File Response questions always say they are incomplete.
- When a student submits the test/exam, even when a file is attached. The bug has been reported.
Students Need to Submit a Program to Answer Questions?
Use File Response Questions -- Other question types can have issues.
- Multiple Answer questions on Test?
- Check "Allow Negative Scores for Incorrect Answers." Set all correct answers' "Partial Credit %" to add up to 100%. Set all incorrect answers' "Partial Credit %" to add up to negative 100% or -100%. Do not use a % sign in the “Partial Credit %” fields.
- Otherwise, if a student selects all of the Multiple Answer choices, *they will get full credit, even though they selected all the wrong answers as well.*
- Examples: You have 6 options to select in a Multiple Answer question. 2 are correct. Set the 2 correct to be 50% each (100/2). Set the 4 incorrect to be -25% each (-100/4). You have 5 options to select in a Multiple Answer question. 2 are correct. Set the 2 correct to be 50% each (100/2). Set the 3 incorrect to be -33%, -33%, and -34% (-100/3). You have 8 options to select in a Multiple Answer question. 3 are correct. Set the 3 correct to be 33%, 33%, and 34% (100/3). Set the 5 incorrect to be -20% each (-100/4). If desired, use decimals. Recommend 4-6 sig figs to right of decimal.
- For how to change, see Bb Learn Tests -- Editing .

Question Sets Override Point Values Set on Tests and Question Pools
If you create a Question Set when creating or editing questions for a specific test, and you use questions from a Question Pool, the point values in the Question Pool are overwritten when you visit the Question Pool webpage a second time. This bug was discovered on or a little before 12/2/2016 and has been reported to Drexel ITG and Bb Learn. There is no ETA on a fix yet.
Also, Question Sets require that all questions have the same point value if you create the Question Set when creating or editing the questions on a specific test. You can create Question Sets when not creating or editing a specific test. Also, you do not need to use Question Sets if you use Question Pools. For more information, see the following webpage.

Surveys Cannot Be Graded
Bb Learn Survey columns in Full Grade Center only show with a checkmark if finished. You cannot assign them a points value. Bb Learn surveys and tests are very, very similar otherwise.
You can make a column in Full Grade Center where you can type in grades.
