CCI Compute Resources for Research and Academic Use
CCI maintains a network of virtualized resources for academic and research use. New Research and Academic systems being built are contained in the college's Proxmox VE cluster, with data stored in the college's CEPH distributed storage environment. Proxmox allows the IT team to migrate virtualized instances between hypervisor nodes without any effect on the instance, meaning that restarts and shutdowns are minimized.
The Proxmox cluster consists of the following:
4 high performance nodes, each with:
- 2x AMD Epyc 7401 24-core/48-thread CPUs
- 512GB RAM
- 2x 256GB SATA SSDs in RAID 1 (boot only)
- Redundant power supplies + battery backup + generator-backed emergency power
- Bonded 10GB Ethernet to the storage network; 1GB uplink to Drexel network
1 shared GPU node with:
- AMD Epyc 7551P 32-core/64-thread CPU
- 6x NVidia Tesla T4 GPU
- 512GB RAM
- 2x 256GB SATA SSDs in RAID 1 (boot only)
- Redundant power supplies + battery backup + generator-backed emergency power
- Bonded 10GB Ethernet to the storage network; 1GB uplink to Drexel network
1 research GPU node with:
- 2x AMD Epyc 7662 64-core/128-thread CPUs
- 3x NVidia A40 GPUs (with room for 5 bring-your-own GPUs for researchers)
- 256GB RAM
- 2x 256GB SATA SSDs in RAID 1 (boot only)
- Redundant power supplies + battery backup + generator-backed emergency power
- Bonded 10GB Ethernet to the storage network; 1GB uplink to Drexel network
16 Standard Nodes, each with:
- 4x AMD Opteron 6376 16-core CPUs
- 256GB RAM
- 120GB SSD (Boot only)
- 10GB Ethernet to the storage network; 1GB uplink to Drexel network
- Single power supply unit + battery backup + generator-backed emergency power
The Ceph cluster provides the following:
- 700TB Raw HDD capacity, 233TB available (triple-replicated for redundancy)
- 160TB Raw SSD capacity, 53TB available (triple-replicated for redundancy)
- Distributed across 10 Storage nodes, connected through bonded 10GB Ethernet
- File level, Block level, and Object level storage available
