DUNX1 ... is DEAD! Use Tux instead.
DUNX1 is GOING AWAY on June 30, 2022
We do NOT AT ALL RECOMMEND CONTINUING TO USE DUNX1. We learned of this on 2/28/2022.
Use Tux Instead
- See Tux Account Information
- Also see: Tux Web Services
- In Tux, store your web files in the public_html folder in your Tux user folder.
- To find your public facing website files, visit https://www.cs.drexel.edu/~mjg88/
But replace mjg88 with your Tux/Drexel userid). - Tux does EVERYTHING DUNX1 did...
- And a lot more!!!
If you need to transfer any webpages from DUNX1, and you are a Drexel CCI student, faculty, or professional staff member, contact ihelp@drexel.edu
Off-campus? Set-up VPN
See instructions below.
ARCHIVAL INFORMATION ONLY BELOW!!!
See webpage below from DU IT

- CyberDuck or FileZilla are MUCH better options than Fetch or SSH.com.
- Instructions for CyberDuck and FileZilla are below.
- Note that apps or programs can also be called clients.
SFTP -- Secure File Transfer to and from a Remote Website or Host or Server, such as Tux or DUNX1
SFTP = secure file transfer protocol. The following videos instruct you on how to use various applications to do this.
- Cyberduck (Mac or Windows)
https://1513041.mediaspace.kaltura.com/media/CyberDuck+SFTP+SSH+Video/1_bjzzhqlw - WinSCP (Windows)
https://1513041.mediaspace.kaltura.com/media/WinSCP+Overview/1_d1xuau98 - FileZilla (Mac or Windows)

https://1513041.mediaspace.kaltura.com/media/FileZilla+SFTP+--+More+Tips/1_ldogyszx - Do NOT use Fetch. No free current license and DU IT's license is for an out-of-date and insecure version that does not work on macOS Catalina.
SSH -- Secure Shell -- Enter Commands on in a Command Line Interface (CLI)
- Terminal (built-in to Mac)
The video below is on SCP, but it will tell you how to simply SSH into a remote server.

No Permission to View or Change File or Webpage?
Make sure you have an index.html file in the public_html folder or any sub-folder (unless you know what you are doing). Make sure that file has the basic proper HTML code in it. Talk to you instructor if you do not know what that is.
If a different file cannot be viewed or changed, make sure that file actually exists, is named how you wish, and that you are typing the file name and folder path in the URL or web address as it should be correctly typed. If you do not know what to type into the web address bar at the top of your web browser, ask your instructor.
If you still have issues, see the above videos on PuTTY, PowerShell, or Mac Terminal, and type in the following Terminal commands to apply the appropriate permissions to your HTML files or folders/directories.
In place of "userid" (no quotes) below, type in your own Drexel userid.
cd
chmod 755 public_html
chmod 755 userid
Change Your DUNX1 Password
- Do *NOT* click the BIG key icon, unless as a last resort. -- That will change your MAIN Drexel password (DrexelOne userid and password), but that may *NOT* change your "Academic Unix" password!
- Click smaller key icon in the "Academic Unix" row instead.
- Your "Academic Unix" password is what is needed for DUNX1 access through a terminal window.
- You have to know your old DUNX1 or Academic Unix password before changing to a new one.
Password rules for Drexel - ONLY IF PROMPTED to CHANGE PASSWORD
- The password must be between 10 and 32 characters in length.
- It must contain characters from at least 3 of 4 character sets: lowercase (e.g. a, b, c), uppercase (e.g. A, B, C), numbers (e.g. 1, 2, 3), or symbols (e.g. @, $, !)
- It should not contain your name or your username.
- The new password has to be different from the old one in at least three characters. That is, you can’t change just one character.
- The new password should be one you have never used before.
Login Issues?
First try this.
- Go to the Drexel Computer Accounts Management (CAM) page at https://accounts.drexel.edu, login, click "Continue," click the "Academic Unix" clam shell icon (or link next to it), and choose to change to a *BASH* set-up.
Write down your previous password.
If you are prompted for a password, try changing the Academic Unix password to your current DrexelOne password.
- Whether or not your successfully changed your password, try to login again to DUNX1 through PuTTY and/or a terminal window.
- If you can login after doing the above, proceed no further.
- If you cannot login -- See the next section below.
Also, if you log into http://dunx1.irt.drexel.edu/ and only get a date:
- Repeat the steps above.
Cannot login to DUNX1? And Other Help
Review the above sections FIRST.
If off-campus, you may need to use a Drexel's Cisco AnyConnect VPN.
If none of these Troubleshooting steps help:
- Call/contact DU IT consult at 215-895-2020, and press 2 when you hear a voice.
- Visit https://accounts.drexel.edu , login, and click the "shell" link, and change the shell to BASH.
- If you are using DUNX1 with a Student Organization, and the above does not help, visit the website below,
and look for contacts for "Student Organization Resource Center."
https://drexel.edu/studentlife/about/contact_directory/ - The following webpages from DU MAY help:
NOTE: CyberDuck is a better option than FileZilla or Fetch or SSH.com. See above for help with CyberDuck.
