Linux apps on Windows from Microsoft Store

You do not NOT need to use Insider Preview or beta builds to get Linux from the Microsoft Store running on Windows. Insider or beta builds of Windows 10 are not supported by Drexel.

Use the "Manual Install" method at link below.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/install-win10

See below for tips with this:

Always run PowerShell as administrator. Can right-click PowerShell in Start menu or Windows menu for that option, or just look for it if you search the Start menu or Windows menu for PowerShell.

Do NOT reboot after step 1.

Type in "winver" (no quotes) into the Start menu or Windows menu search to check Windows version.

Type into Powershell the following to see if ARM64 or x64.

systeminfo | find "System Type"

Reboot after step 3.

You do NOT need to sign into the Microsoft Store. Click Get for a version of Linux. Click cancel or no when asked to sign. Download will happen anyway.

I did not install Windows Terminal, but seem useful. She should try it if she wants.

If you need to update Linux, see https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/how-do-i-update-ubuntu-linux-softwares/

If you have issues updating Windows, try going to Start or Windows menu > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > click "Retry" or "Update" buttons ONLY. If a Drexel-provided or -managed Windows machine, open Software Center from Start or Window menu, get on VPN while off campus to login, and try Updates there. Only after that click the blue link on the Windows Update page to force an update.
