Outlook -- Mac Install and Configure

You can use Outlook on a Mac to check your Drexel Office 365 email. Here's how to install Outlook on a Mac.

You probably cannot use Outlook on a Mac if your Mac is not owned or managed by Drexel.

  1. Uninstall any previously installed versions of Microsoft Office first.

  2. Not on Drexel's wired internet network, nor on Drexel's dragonfly3 wifi internet network?

    1. Use Drexel's Cisco AnyConnect VPN application to connect to vpn.drexel.edu .

      2. macOS user on a Drexel owned or managed Mac? 
        1. Install "Self-Service for Mac" first.
          1. Visit the webpage below and open and follow the "ENROLLMENT INSTRUCTIONS (PDF)," or contact us.

        2. Then install the "Cisco AnyConnect" application from "Self-Service for Mac."

  3. Login to the Office 365 web portal, and make sure you can access your Drexel email there.

  4. Click "Office 365" in upper left.

  5. Click the "Install Office 2016" link, and download and install Office 2016 to your Mac computer.

      1. Click your name in the upper right of the Office 365 web portal at https://portal.office.com.
      2. Click "View account" on the right.
      3. Click "Install status" on the left.
      4. Click "Install desktop applications" (might look like text until you hover your mouse pointer over it).
      5. Click "Install" under "Install Office 2016 for Mac (Recommended)."
      6. Follow the on-screen instructions and install Office 2016.

  6. Open "Self Service for Mac" from your Mac "Applications" folder. Not installed? Then click link below.

    1. If you do not have "Self-Service for Mac" installed, visit the webpage below and open and follow the "ENROLLMENT INSTRUCTIONS (PDF)," or contact us.

    2. If your Mac is not owned or managed by Drexel, you may not be able to install "Self-Service for Mac."

  7. Click "Update" under "Update Outlook Settings for Office 365" in the "Self-Service for Mac" application.
  8. Then click "Update" again.
  9. Enter your DrexelOne userid followed by "@drexel.edu" (without quotes). Example (do not use): abcd1234@drexel.edu.
  10. Click "OK."
  11. Let the "Update" script run, and allow "Outlook" to open.
    1. See a "problem" updating outlook settings window? For now, just click "OK," and go to Outlook.
  12. Open the Outlook 2016 application on your Mac, if not already open.
  13. In the "Welcome to Outlook" window, click the > or right arrow. Then click "Get started" > "Start Using Outlook" > "Add Account" > "Exchange or Office 365".
  14. Enter your DrexelOne userid followed by "@drexel.edu" (without quotes). Example (do not use): abcd1234@drexel.edu.
    1. Leave "Method" with "User Name and Password" selected.
  15. Enter your DrexelOne userid and password.
    1. Do not include "DREXEL\" or "Drexel\" or "drexel\" in the "User name."
    2. "Configure automatically" should be checked.
  16. Click "Add Account." Wait 1-2 minutes or less.
    1. See this pop-up window? "Outlook was redirected to the server... Do you want to allow this server to configure your settings?"
      1. Check "Always use my response for this server." Click "Allow." Wait 1-2 minutes or less.
  17. Close the "Accounts" window, and you should see your Drexel email in the Outlook window.
  18. Saw a "problem" updating outlook settings window in step 10 above? Do the following:

    1. "Problem" error message would have appeared when using "Update Outlook Settings for Office 365" in the "Self-Service for Mac" application.

      1. Close Outlook completely.
      2. Click "Update" under "Update Outlook Settings for Office 365" in the "Self-Service for Mac" application.
      3. Click "Update" again.
      4. Enter your DrexelOne userid followed by "@drexel.edu" (without quotes). Example (do not use): abcd1234@drexel.edu.
      5. Click "OK."
      6. Let the "Update" script run, and "Outlook" open.
        1. Or open "Outlook" again.

  19. Keep seeing "Outlook was redirected to the server..." pop-up window? Do the following.

    1. Check "Always use my response for this server.
    2. Click "Allow."
    3. Close Outlook completely.
    4. Click "Update" under "Update Outlook Settings for Office 365" in the "Self-Service for Mac" application.
    5. Then click "Update" again.
    6. Enter your DrexelOne userid followed by "@drexel.edu" (without quotes). Example (do not use): abcd1234@drexel.edu.
    7. Click "OK."
    8. Let the "Update" script run, and "Outlook" open.
      1. Or open "Outlook" again.

  20. Send a test email from an external email account to make sure your Drexel email is working.

Not seeing email or not receiving email? Close and re-open Outlook 2016.

Cannot authenticate (login)? Close and re-open Outlook 2016. If that does not work, close and re-open Outlook 2016, log in to https://portal.office.com, and then close and re-open Outlook 2016.

  1. Open a "Finder" window, and press Command + Shift + G.

  2. Go to path: /User/Shared/
  3. Click on the web link and make sure it opens on something other than Firefox
  4. Type in your DrexelOne username and password.
  5. Download package, and run it once downloaded.
